"Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act..." -Psalm 37:7
As I think of the words "I can't", I can still hear my mom telling me to just be patient. How I heard those words over and over again as a youngster most likely because I was always saying those two words, I can't. Today, I still struggle with this patience component. In the busy world we live where in five seconds or less, the random question we have in our heads can instantly be answered by google. Yes my friends, patience seems like a lost art in our society.
In talking with one of my friends last night about a job, she stated that maybe the job just was not meant for her and that God had another plan. I too thought to myself that I had stated earlier in the week that I would just wait to see what happened with a job situation because I knew that God had a plan for me.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." -Proverbs 3:5
To trust in the Lord requires patience. He does not send us an email with the latest agenda regarding our lives, nor does he give us signals using bright lights. Instead, we rely on our faith and mindset that when we trust in Him, He will be our guide.
Certain aspects of your life are easier than others to practice patience. There have been so many times when I have begged God to please just guide me and tell me what I am supposed to do, and you know what surprisingly he always answers. Whether its through a Proverbs31 devotion, or a just a reminder to me.... patience my dear child. God has a plan and the best part about it is that he will be there each step of the way.
While I do not have children to test my patience every day, I do have three absolutely beautiful dogs who test my patience. When we are given those testing situations, its important for us to take a step back and realize that "patience is a virtue" desired by God.
"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance taught in the scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." -Romans 15:4
We learn from our past experiences and all of those experiences whether good or bad help shape us into the person we are today. Display the patience in knowing that this too is part of God's plan, trust in his path, and know that He loves you dearly.
When I arrived home today, my coonhound (Cody) was howling because he was ready for supper. Instead of yelling at him to be quiet, I went downstairs and fed them. Yes, there were other things that I would have preferred to do first, but in the grand scheme of things this was a small way to display patience. It was one that forced me to be patient with my agenda and look at the needs (or Cody's wants) in the situation. Today, I challenge you to practice patience before you react or just remind yourself that it was not in God's plan and you must be patient for that GREAT thing that is headed your way. Its a lot easier to trust in his plan than worry. I promise and I promise that there is always sunshine that will follow cloudy days. It just might take a few days for the sun to come out! (Sun is in the forecast for tomorrow.. Hallelujah!)
