"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." -Romans 12:12
Several people have asked me why I named my blog "Faith, Patience, Love" and so I thought this would be a great opportunity to share.
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." -Hebrews 11:1
In life, we often experience a tribulation that causes us to second guess everything we are made of. It was during this time that one of my dearest friends shared with me the daily devotional site of Proverbs 31. And talking about God speaking to you, on this day someone else was experiencing my same tribulation and had written a devotion about it. I was glued. God was sending me the signs in bright lights. This was God starting his journey to help me put the pieces of the scattered puzzle back together. Everyday for what seemed like a few weeks, the devotions seemed to be devoted to me. How did the writers for this devotional site know what I needed so desperately to hear?? They didn't but God did. So the first word of my tattoo became faith. Faith for those things that I could not see or could not figure out how the pieces would come back together.
"But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience." -Romans 8:25
Patience has never been a strong point of mine. I want things to happen instantly; however, my greatest joys in life have become those things that forced me to be patient. Every morning as I continued to start my day off by reading the devotion on proverbs31, I came to realize that puzzles are put together one piece at a time. During the winter my mom puts together puzzles at night. She will put together these thousand piece puzzles one piece at a time until one night the final piece is placed and the great masterpiece is revealed. God helps us put together our life one piece at a time. For He knows where every piece goes, and the right time to place certain pieces together. My mom likes to put the outsides together first, then proceed to the inside. God helps us face our days as he gradually works on our hearts, minds, and core to become focused on Him. We can easily hide behind our outward appearances, but God knows what we need on the inside. So the second word of my tattoo became patience. Patience to understand that God is constantly working on the plan that I do not see.
"So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her." Genesis 29:20
If you are familiar with the story of Jacob and Rachel, you know that it was a true test of love that required both faith and patience. In our lives, we must first learn to love ourselves before we can truly experience the great love that God wants us to share. Jesus died on the cross because of his great love for us. This was the ultimate sacrifice. I find peace in knowing that God loves me and strives to bring me closer to him through my life experiences and I think he did just that. You see he placed that dear friend in my life just a few weeks before I would need her the most. She sent me to a devotional site that would change my life forever and for that I am truly thankful. Its funny how instantly some friendships are formed and that's because God is working his wonderful magic. God's love and those special people that he places in our lives are there to help us put together that puzzle no matter how many pieces it contains. So love became the last word on my tattoo.
My tattoo is no where to be found on my body but it is permanently etched in my mind and my heart. I got you to read this entire blog because you wanted to know if I had a tattoo :) I do not have a tattoo and most likely never will, kind of scared of needles and the fact that it is permanent. If someone would invent a year tattoo, I would sign up for that one. Okay back to my story, my tattoo is there to remind me every day that I am here today because God believes in me. His faith in me and my patience knowing that he is by my side working on this grand plan allows me to not only love others but love myself in this process.
Faith... Patience... Love
